Sorry it's been so long since I posted. Heck of week and the spirit didn't move me.
Well, the responses I got from folks on my first couple posts were all helpful and positive. Thank you all! One commented on my list of future topics and said it made him laugh. Hey, that alone was worth the effort to learn how to do this and put myself out there.
The title says it all,"Comfortable in an Apron?". Many of us guys have been used to traditional households where husband and wife share "equal" duties, being thrown into the new role as house-husband can be quite a shock to your ego,or something to that effect? Getting comfortable wearing that apron has a much deeper meaning than just deciding you have to wash your stained shirt anyhow, so why bother wearing one. It really is rooted in how secure you are with the changes in your life and role you play that is beginning to become reality. Maybe that's why many women will say "there's nothing sexier than a man in the kitchen cooking"? Maybe it's because they recognize that for a man, especially old farts like us, to step into a new role around the household and be good with it takes alot of self-confidence and positive self-esteem.
I'm not saying I want to make cooking and cleaning my full-time role around here, but I do look at the Yin & Yang of my wife stepping into a new role working outside the home,so why not me? As a matter of fact, each time I put on that proverbial apron, I must become stronger and more self confident or I will wither away into oblivion.
A good friend of mine asked me recently, "how are you doing"? I responded, well I haven't reached the point of Bon-Bons and Soap Operas! Not that the temptation isn't there, especially when there's a good classic movie on. So the lesson is, explore the new you in the new role you may be serving during this transition period and revel in putting that apron on. Oh, and fight that temptation to buy those Bon-Bons at the grocery store!
Like Warren Miller always says, "If you don't do it today, you'll just be another year older when you do!"
